(6) Cover The transmission hydraulic control controls the oil pressure to the torque converter, to the transmission clutches, and to the lubrication circuits. The transmission hydraulic control also controls the flow of oil to the clutches. The transmission hydraulic control is installed on the top of the transmission planetary group. The control consists of the following components:
Solenoids (1)
Selector valve group (2)
Top manifold (3)
Selector and pressure control valve (4)
Plate (5)The speed selector spool for second speed is behind cover (6).

(13) Number 4 clutch solenoid
(14) Number 5 clutch solenoid
(15) Number 1 clutch solenoid
(16) Number 2 clutch solenoid Inlet oil for the operation of the hydraulic control flows from the transmission oil filters. This oil flows through tube (7) to the selector and pressure control valve.Oil for the operation of the torque converter flows through tube (8) and through an oil line to the torque converter. The clutch solenoids direct pump oil to the ends of the selector spools. The selector spools move in order to send oil to the clutch causing the clutch to engage.

(28) Load piston The selector and pressure control valve group and the selector valve group are inside the top cover of the transmission.Selector spools (23), (24), and (26) are moved when oil pressure is applied to one end of the spool. Each solenoid controls the oil pressure to the end of one spool. If no pressure is going to the end of a spool, then that end is opened to the drain. The power train ECM activates the solenoids in order to control the speed of the transmission and the direction of the transmission.

(23) First speed and third speed selection spool Directs oil to the Number 3 clutch or to the Number 5 clutch
(24) Second speed selection spool Directs oil to the Number 4 clutch
(25) Converter inlet ratio valve Limits the maximum pressure to the torque converter
