Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.Make sure all of the work tools have been lowered to the ground, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Prepare the machine for testing by completing the procedure that is specified in the Service Manual module Testing and Adjusting, "Machine Preparation for Troubleshooting" for the machine that is being serviced.
Make sure that the hydraulic oil pressure is relieved from the hydraulic system by completing the procedure that is specified in the Service Manual module Testing and Adjusting, "System Pressure - Release" for the machine that is being serviced.

Pump Compartment (1) Implement pump. (2) Case drain hose.
Disconnect case drain hose (2) from pump (1) .
The 6V-7788 Flow Meter is installed between the pump (1) and the hose (2) .
Engage the parking brake.
Shift the transmission to neutral.
Start the engine. Warm the hydraulic oil to normal operating temperature of approximately 49 to 65°C (120 to 150°F).
Run the engine at high idle.
Tilt the work tool rearward fully and return the tilt control lever to the HOLD position. Lower the work tool fully. Hold the lift control lever in the LOWER position in order to raise the pressure of the implement system to the relief valve setting.Note: Do not hold the relief pressure for more than 30 seconds at a time.
Record the case drain oil flow.
The case drain oil flow for a new machine is 8 7 L/min (2 2 US gpm).
If the case drain oil flow exceeds 50 L/min, the pump needs to be repaired or replaced.
Remove the test equipment and connect case drain hose (2) on pump (1) .
