Identify the orientation of cover (1), ring gear (5), and hub (4) for assembly purposes.2. Remove four shoulder bolts (3) and the lock washers. Remove eight bolts (2) and remove cover (1). Remove the large O-ring seal located in cover (1). Thrust washer (7) may stick to the bottom of cover (1).3. Remove thrust washer (7) from coupling (8). Remove coupling (8).4. Remove thrust washer (6). Also remove the thrust bearing and another thrust washer located behind thrust washer (6).5. Remove ring gear (5). Remove the large O-ring seal located between ring gear (5) and hub (4).6. Remove carrier assembly (9) from the internal gear. 7. Disassemble the carrier assembly as follows: a. Place carrier assembly (9) on its side so one of the cluster gear assemblies is on top and accessible. Make sure the case bears the weight of the unit. Do not support the unit on the cluster gear assemblies.b. Drive roll pin (10) into planet shaft (11) until the roll pin clears the carrier wall. Push the planet shaft out one end of carrier (9) sliding it through the cluster gear and the thrust washers.c. Lift out cluster gear (14), two tabbed thrust washers (16), and two thrust washers (12) from carrier (9).d. Remove twenty-eight needle rollers (13) and spacer (15) from cluster gear (14).e. Repeat Steps a through d to remove the other two planet shaft assemblies. 8. Remove input shaft assembly (18).9. Remove thrust washer (19). Also remove the thrust bearing and another thrust washer located behind thrust washer (19).10. Remove internal gear (17) from hub (4). 11. Disassemble the input shaft assembly as follows: a. Remove retaining rings (24) and (23) from input shaft (18).b. Remove input gear (20) from the input shaft.c. Remove retaining ring (22) and spacer (21) from input shaft (18). 12. Remove retaining ring (26) and spacer (27). Seal (29) will be pushed from hub (4) and bearing cage (28) will be pushed from output shaft (25) when output shaft (25) is pressed through hub.13. Put hub (4) in position in a press. Push output shaft (25) out of hub (4). Do not let output shaft (25) fall when it is pushed free of hub (4). 14. Put output shaft (25) in a press. Push output shaft (25) out of bearing cage (30). Do not let output shaft (25) fall when it is pushed free of bearing cage (30). 15. Remove bearing cups (31) and (32) from hub (4).Assemble Planetary Drive
1. Lower the temperature of bearing cups (31) and (32) and install the cups in hub (4). 2. Heat bearing cone (30) to a maximum temperature of 135°C (275°F). Install bearing cone (30) on output shaft (25). 3. Install output shaft (25) into hub (4) until bearing cage (30) is seated against bearing cup (32).4. Heat bearing cone (28) to a maximum temperature of 135°C (275°F). Install bearing cone (28) on output shaft (25).5. Install spacer (27) and retaining ring (26) on output shaft (25). 6.
