Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
The engine can start automatically. Ensure that the power supply is isolated before any service or repairs is performed.
Turn the fuel supply to the OFF position.

Using Tooling (A) remove fuel filters (15). Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System Primary Filter (Water Separator) Element - Replace" for the correct procedure.
Disconnect harness assembly (3) from oil pressure sensor (5).
Cut cable strap (9). Disconnect harness assembly (10) from oil pressure sensor (9).
Loosen bolt (1) for the clip and remove the clip from tube assembly (4).
Remove bolt (2) from the clip and remove the clip from tube assembly (4).
Remove tube assembly (4) from primary fuel filter base (7) and the fuel connection on bracket (14).
Remove O-ring seal (13) (not shown) and O-ring seal (6) (not shown).
Use Tooling (B) to cap tube assembly (4).
Use Tooling (B) to cap the connection on primary fuel filter base (7) and the fuel connection on bracket (14).
Remove tube assembly (17) from primary fuel filter base (7) and fuel priming pump (12).
Use Tooling (B) to cap tube assembly (17).
Remove O-ring seal (11) (not shown) and O-ring seal (18) (not shown).
Use Tooling (B) to cap the connection on primary fuel filter base (7) and the connection fuel priming pump (12).
Remove bolts (16) from primary fuel filter base (7). Support the weight of the primary fuel filter base as the bolts are removed. Remove primary fuel filter base (7) from bracket (14).

If necessary, follow Step 17.a through Step 17.f in order to disassemble primary fuel filter head (7).
Remove connection (18) from primary fuel filter head (7). Remove O-ring seal (19) (not shown).
Remove the inlet fuel pressure sensor (21). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Pressure Sensor (Primary Duplex Inlet Fuel Pressure Sensor) - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.
Remove check valve (20). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Check Valve - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.
Remove the outlet fuel pressure sensor (22). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Pressure Sensor (Primary Duplex Outlet Fuel Pressure Sensor) - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.
Remove check valve (23). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Check Valve - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.
Make temporary marks on elbow connection (26). Loosen lock nut (25) and remove the elbow connection from primary fuel filter head (7). Remove
