Schematic for the steering and brake oil cooler system (1) Oil cooler for the steering and brake systems (2) Check valve for the oil cooler bypass (3) Filter for the steering system "STRG RTRN FLTR" (4) Pressure switch for the filter (5) Fluid sampling port (6) Gear pump for the steering and brake oil cooler systems (7) Hydraulic tank for the steering and brake systemsThe gear pump (6) draws hydraulic oil from the hydraulic tank (7). The oil then passes through the oil filter (3). The filter removes any debris that is in the hydraulic oil. This action prevents contamination of the oil that is in the hydraulic tank (7) for the steering and brake systems.A bypass valve in the filter allows the hydraulic oil to bypass the oil filter. This action occurs when the flow of oil through the filter is restricted and an adequate oil flow cannot be maintained. Also, this action will occur in cold start-up conditions when the hydraulic oil is cold. The pressure switch (4) actuates when the flow of oil through the filter is restricted. The pressure switch (4) is monitored by the VIMS. The VIMS will display a warning when the flow of oil through the filter is restricted.The hydraulic oil then flows to the oil cooler for the steering and brake systems (1). The check valve for the oil cooler bypass allows the hydraulic oil to bypass the oil cooler. This action occurs when the hydraulic oil is cold or when a restriction to the cooler is present. The hydraulic oil then flows to the hydraulic tank for the steering and brake systems.The Fluid sampling valve (5) is available for scheduled oil sampling analysis (S O S analysis).Note: For additional information on the VIMS, refer to Service Manual, RENR6318, "Vital Information Management System (VIMS)".
