Test Step 1. PERFORM THE POWER TRAIN ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SERVICE SHUTDOWN PROCEDUREThe next test step will require entry into the Inverter high voltage compartment that contains the RGBI.When a compartment that contains high voltage components must be entered, the Power Train Electrical System Service Shutdown procedure must be performed before the cover for the compartment is removed.Reference: Refer to the Troubleshooting, "Electrical Shutdown and Voltage Discharge" section of this manual. Perform the "Power Train Electrical System Service Shutdown" procedure in order to verify that the voltage in the drive train system has been discharged. Once the voltage of the DC bus in the retarding contactor compartment is verified as discharged, and a jumper wire is in place, return to this point in this procedure and proceed. Results:
OK - The Power Train Electrical System Service Shutdown procedure has been performed, the voltage is verified as discharged, and the jumper wire is in place. Proceed to the next test step.Test Step 2. CHECK THE LOCATION CODE CIRCUITS
Turn the battery disconnect switch and the key start switch to the OFF position.
At the rear of the Inverter Cabinet, remove the high voltage compartment cover (1) for the compartment that contains the RGBI.
As instructed in the "Power Train Electrical System Service Shutdown" procedure, use the high voltage meter to measure for any voltage between the DC positive (P) connection and the DC negative (N) connection on the RGBI. Verify that there is less than 50.0 VDC between the connections. Once the voltage level is verified, continue to the next step.
At the RGBI, disconnect the low voltage connector. Examine the pins and sockets on the RGBI connector and on the harness connector. Ensure that all of the pins and sockets are secured in the connectors, the contacts are clean, and the contacts are in good condition.
Ensure that the circuits are connected in the correct connector locations that are illustrated in the connection diagram at the beginning of this procedure.
At the disconnected harness connector, use a multimeter to check for continuity between the three location code connections. Refer to the connection diagram at the beginning of this procedure to verify that circuit continuity exists between the three location code circuits.
While observing the resistance measurements between the three location code circuits, wiggle the connector and gently pull on the three location code wires. Expected Result:Each of the circuit connections for the RGBI is in the proper connector location. Each of the resistance measurements between the three location code connections is 5 ohms or less at all times during the manipulation of the circuit connectors. Results:
OK - The circuit location are correct and the resistance measurements are 5 ohms or less than 5 ohms at all times during the manipulation of the circuit connectors. There is continuity between the three location code circuits. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - Either the RGBI circuit connections are not correct according to the connection diagram or there is not good continuity between the three location code circuits.Repair: If a circuit wire
