If the axle assembly has been removed from the machine, place the axle assembly on Tooling (A). Make sure that the axle assembly is positioned as if the axle assembly is installed on the machine.

Attach Tooling (B), a hoist and suitable lifting chains to the wheel, as shown. For equal distribution of weight, adjust the length of the lifting chains. The combined weight of the final drive, of the brake and of the wheel is 1815 kg (4000 lb).

Remove nuts (5) and bolts (4) .

Use the hoist to carefully remove the final drive, the brake and wheel (6) from the axle housing as a unit.

Remove O-ring seal (7) from the mounting flange of the service brake.Installation Procedure

Install new O-ring seal (7) on the mounting flange of the service brake. Apply a thin coat of final drive oil on the O-ring seal.

Attach Tooling (B), a hoist and suitable lifting chains to the wheel, as shown. For equal distribution of weight, adjust the length of the lifting chains. The combined weight of the final drive, of the brake and of the wheel is 1815 kg (4000 lb).
Check the condition of six hollow dowels (8). If any dowels are broken or damaged, install new dowels.
Align six hollow dowels (8) with the holes in the service brake. Use the hoist to carefully install the final drive, the brake and wheel (6) on the axle housing as a unit.

Install bolts (4) and nuts (5). The torque for bolts (4) and for nuts (5) is 1125 100 N m (830 74 lb ft).
Remove the lifting chains and Tooling (B) from wheel (6) .Note: If the axle assembly is on the machine, continue with the following steps.

Install new O-ring seals on the tube connections. Connect tube assemblies (2) and (3) to the service brake.

Install guard assembly (1) .
Purge the air from the service brakes. For the correct procedure, refer to Testing and Adjusting, SENR1353, "992G Wheel Loader and 854G Wheel Tractor Braking System".
Check the oil level in the hydraulic tank for the steering system and for the braking system. For the correct procedure, refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for your machine.End By:
Install the axle shaft. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Axle Shaft - Remove and Install".
Install the tire and the rim. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Tire and Rim (Front) - Remove and Install" for the front tire and rim. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Tire and Rim (Rear) - Remove and Install" for the rear tire and rim.
