Introduction
The 8C6231 Customer Parameter Configuration Aid is a service program module installed in the 8T8697 Electronic Control Analyzer Programmer (ECAP). It provides assistance to the user in determining values for Customer Specified Parameters programmed into the Electronic Control Module (ECM) of the engine.This version supports both 3406B/C/E and 3176/B electronic engines.The user can create new values, load previously saved values from ECAP memory, or read parameters from the ECM.The program provides for:* Printing the list of Customer Specified Parameters* Plotting a split chart showing gear shift points with vehicle speed and engine RPM limits* Save (store) the values to ECAP memory* Write (send) the list of Customer Specified Parameters directly to the engine ECM connected to the 8T8697 ECAP.Reference: Special Instruction ... Friendly menu driven user interface with value range checking.One full specification can be saved to and loaded from 8T8697 ECAP memory.Customer Specified Parameters can be read from and written to an engine ECM (3406B PEEC or 3176) connected to the 8T8697 ECAP.The list of Customer Specified Parameters can be printed using the 8T9700 Rechargeable Portable Printer Group or compatible serial interface printer. Refer to SEHS8740.A Split Chart can be plotted using the 8T9700 Rechargeable Portable Printer Group or compatible serial interface printer. Refer to SEHS8740.Parameters related to distance may be shown in either English (miles and inches) or Metric (kilometers and millimeters) by making the units selection using the Utility Functions Menu. Service programs for use with the 8T8697 Electronic Control Analyzer Programmer (ECAP) are provided through Caterpillar Dealers.The 8T8697 ECAP will be delivered with utility programs for selecting Metric or English display units and routines for basic communication abilities.The 8C6231 Customer Parameter Configuration Aid will need to be installed by you to enable the 8T8697 ECAP to provide this function.When service program updates occur, you will be able to install them the same way. 1. Remove the eight screws (1) holding the cover panel (2) and lift out of case (3). 2. Turn the cover panel (2) over for access to the program module sockets (4) on the component side (5) of the cover panel.3. Install the Configuration Aid Master SPM in any empty program module socket U45, U46, U47 (4), or U2, U3, or U4 (7) on the expansion board.4. Install the 7X1180 Internal Expansion Board (6). Refer to SEHS8833. Internal Expansion Board 7X1180 is needed for the Configuration Aid.5. Install the NEXG4512 Configuration Aid Slave SPM into socket U5 on the 7X1180 Internal Expansion Board (6).
