Loaders ( 99Y)Description of Change: A new 3T5816 Selector And Pressure Control Valve Group is used in transmissions for 966D Loaders (99Y). In comparison with earlier 8P3041 Selector And Pressure Control Valve Groups (as shown in the original Parts Books and Microfiche), changes have been made as follows: ... The 2A3746 Cup Plug has been removed from the valve body. ( The orifice plug, which is part of the 7G9565 Body Assembly, is not removed.)... A new 3T7726 Screen Orifice is used, with a 1.067 mm (.042") opening. The former 8P9749 Screen Orifice has a 0.965 mm (.038") opening. For identification, the new orifice is either white or brown and the former orifice is black.... A new, machined 3T8269 Orifice Plug is used in the 7G9565 Body Assembly. The former 7G9562 Orifice Plug was a cup-type design. The size of the 0.889 mm (.035") diameter orifice in the plug is not changed.
These changes will improve transmission operation as follows: ... Removal of the 2A3746 Plug will permit the directional clutches to fill faster.... The larger orifice diameter of the screen orifice will give a shorter clutch modulation time. In addition, the 3T7726 Orifice is of a stronger design.... Use of the 3T8269 Orifice Plug will permit assembly of the orifice plug into the valve body with no distortion of the orifice size.
Also, a revision is to be made to the information about the transmission selector and pressure control valve in the "Testing And Adjusting" section (Form SENR2152) of the Service Manual for 966D Wheel Loaders, Form SENR2144. On Page 7 of Form SENR2152, change the lower illustration and caption, and the NOTE below the illustration as follows:
... In the illustration, remove Item 26.... Change the caption under the illustration to read "24. Setscrew. 25. Hole (No. 10-24 Threads). X. Surface of valve body."... Change the NOTE to read " Setscrew (24) must be installed in hole (25). Setscrew (24) permits correct operation of load piston (11). Setscrew must be assembled below surface (X)."Adaptable To: All earlier 966D Loaders. The new 3T5816 Valve Group (part of a new 3T5815 Neutralizer, Selector and Pressure Control Valve Group) is used in plate of the former 8P3041 Valve Group in 8P2015 Transmission Arrangements 4KA603-Up. Conversion of earlier 8P3041 Valve Groups to new 3T5816 Valve Groups can be made as follows:
1. Remove the 2A3746 Cup Plug from the valve. The hole where the plug was removed is to be open, without restriction.2. Remove the 8P9749 Screen Orifice (0.965 mm - .038" orifice diameter) and install either a 9P5476 (white) or 3T7726 (brown) Screen Orifice (1.067 mm - .042" orifice diameter).3. Change the identification plate on the valve body to show the new part number "3T5816"During work on the valve, check to be sure the 7G9562 or 3T8269 Orifice Plug is not damaged and is the correct size.
