Removal Procedure
Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses, and tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.
Hot engine components can cause injury from burns. Before performing maintenance on the engine, allow the engine and the components to cool.
Open the hood. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Compartment Hood - Raise/Lower" for the correct procedure to raise the hood.
Remove the engine side guards. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine covers - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure to remove the engine covers.
Disconnect the batteries.

Remove bolt (4), the washer, and cable (3) from alternator guard kit (2) .
Slide boot (1) away from the connection.

Remove nut (6), the washer, and cable (5) from alternator (7) .

Release the tension on the alternator. Loosen the nut on bolt (10) at the bottom of the alternator. Loosen two nuts (8) on alternator adjustment rod (9) .

Remove nuts (12) (not shown), the washers, and alternator fan guard (11) from the alternator.

Remove V-belt (15) and V-belt (14) from alternator (7) .
Remove bolt (13) and the two washers. Remove bolt (16) and the two washers.
Remove alternator (7) .Installation Procedure

Install alternator (7) on the bracket with bolt (16) and the two washers.

Install V-belt (14) and (15) .
Move the alternator in position and install bolt (13) and the two washers.

Install alternator fan guard (11) to the alternator with the washers and nuts (12) (not shown).

Adjust the V-belt tension.Note: Check the fan belt tension. Use a Kent Moore Company BT-33-77 gauge. The correct tension for a new V-belt is 534 22 N (120 5 lb). The correct tension for a used V-belt is 400 44 N (90 10 lb). The tension of a used V-belt is over 30 minutes of operation at rated speed.
Tighten nuts (8) on alternator adjustment rod (9). Tighten the nut on bolt (10) at the bottom of the alternator.

Position cable (5), the washer, and nut (6) on alternator (7) .

Slide boot (1) over the connection.
Install cable (3), the washer and bolt (4) to alternator guard kit (2) .
Connect the batteries.
Install the engine side guards. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine covers - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure to install the engine covers.
Close the hood. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Compartment Hood - Raise/Lower" for the correct procedure to lower the hood.
