The generator set control panel provides controls, monitoring and protection devices needed to operate the engine and generator safely and efficiently. The generator set control panel has switches for starting the engine, adjusting the voltage (output), stopping the engine and an Emergency Stop Push Button (ESPB). The Generator Set Control (GSC) is the principal component of the generator set control panel.The GSC has two display windows for generator output and engine operating conditions. Information shown on the upper and lower displays is controlled by the keypad below the windows. Engine speed, oil pressure, coolant temperature and engine hours are monitored and displayed on the GSC instead of a typical instrument (gauge) panel. Refer to Operating Parameters topic for information on engine operating indicator readings.The GSC also protects the engine and generator by detecting diagnostic faults and indicating an alarm or shutdown condition with yellow or red lamps on the panel. The fault indicators are for* low oil pressure,* emergency stop,* high coolant temperature,* engine overspeed,* low coolant level,* engine overcrank,* fault shutdown and fault alarm. The GSC manages low oil pressure, high coolant temperature and low coolant level as shutdown conditions (provided from the factory), but the GSC can be programmed to override the shutdown condition and provide an alarm instead. The GSC has four modes of operation-Normal, Alarm, Shutdown and Service. The Service mode operation has a feature where the fault log and the setpoints can be viewed, the fault log cleared and the setpoints programmed. Normal Mode: The GSC uses normal mode for the normal operation of the genset. The operator can identify normal mode by observing the display window. When in normal mode, all the dedicated and fault shutdown indicators are OFF, the fault alarm indicator is OFF and "SERV" is NOT displayed on the upper window. Alarm Mode: The GSC automatically goes into alarm mode to alert the operator that an alarm fault (non-critical) is occurring. The operator can identify alarm mode by observing the display window. When in alarm mode, the fault alarm indicator (yellow) is flashing. Shutdown Mode: The GSC automatically goes into shutdown mode to shut the engine down and alert the operator that a shutdown fault (critical) is occurring. The operator can identify shutdown mode by observing the display window. When in shutdown mode, a dedicated or fault shutdown indicator (red) is flashing. Service Mode: The GSC goes into service mode when the operator presses the service mode key on the keypad. The operator or service person uses service mode to assist with troubleshooting of diagnostic faults, to satisfy special applications, to satisfy customer needs and to verify or calibrate/adjust genset functions. The operator can identify service mode by observing the display window. When in service mode, "SERV" is displayed on the upper window.Control Panel
