Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Timing marks

Ensure that dowels (2) are seated in balancer (1). Ensure that marks 2,2 and 2 on gears (6) are aligned. Refer to Illustration 1.

Alignment of the timing marks
Align dowels (2) with the holes in the cylinder block. Align mark 1,1 on gear (6) to mark 1 on crankshaft gear (12). Refer to Illustration 3. Position balancer (1) on the engine. The balancer weighs approximately 23 kg (51 lb).
Install bolts (3). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 30 N m (22 lb ft).
Use Tooling (F) in order to check the backlash between gears (6). Refer to Specifications, "Gear Group (Front)".
Use Tooling (F) in order to check the backlash between gears (6) and (12). Refer to Specifications, "Gear Group - Front" for further information.End By: Install the engine oil pan. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, " Engine Oil Pan - Remove and Install".
