For specific information on your host machine, refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual of your host machine.
Illustration 1 g03809950When you close the shells of the grapple, raise the stick in order to prevent excessive pressure on the shells of the grapple. The overall length of the grapple increases as the shells are closed. In order to lift an object that is stuck to the ground, raise the grapple in a vertical direction. Do not rotate either the grapple or the host machine until the object is free from the ground. The grapple should not contact the stops of the mounting bracket when the grapple is moved.

Illustration 3 g03809957Do not use the grapple to pry an object loose. Do not use the grapple to shake an object. Do not use the grapple as a ram.Lifting Loads
Lifting loads with the clamshell grapple is only permitted when the shells are in the OPEN position. Lifting loads when the shells are in the CLOSED position may result in serious injury or death.
As soon as the excavator is used as a crane and will be used to lift loads of more than 1000 kg, the excavator must comply with the requirements for lifting machinery. These are given in standard EN 474-5. For more information, consult your excavator dealer.
Note: When you lift loads with the lifting eye, the shells of the grapple must be open.Lifting Eye

Fully open the shells of the grapple.
Use an appropriate lifting device that is rated for the specific load. Failure to do so can result in serious injury or death.
Fasten an appropriate chain, cable, or a lifting strap to the lifting eye. There is a lifting eye located on the bottom of the housing of the grapple. Do not perform any lifting operations if the lifting eye is damaged. Contact your Cat dealer.
Consult the following Table 1 for the maximum lifting load of the grapple.
Table 1
Maximum Lifting Load of the Grapple Lifting Eye
Serial Number Prefix (S/N) Maximum Load(1)
AZ2 10000 kg (22046 lb)
AZ3 8000 kg (17637 lb)
(1) As the boom of the host machine is extended, the maximum load of the lifting eye can become greater than the maximum load of the host machine. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual of the host machine for information regarding the maximum load capacity.Lifting Objects
To prevent injury, do not exceed the rated load capacity of the machine. If the machine is not on level ground, load capacities will vary.
Refer to the load charts in the Operation and Maintenance Manual of the host machine. Use the load charts and account for the mass of the work tool. Calculate the load capacity relative to the location of the lifting point on your specific host machine. The lifting point has a maximum capacity. The capacity is marked on the lifting point or near the lifting point. Do not exceed the maximum capacity.Use a sling or a shackle to attach to the lifting point and lift the object. The sling or the shackle must have a rated
