When the PLE640 system does not send a message when the Geo-Fence Is crossed, certain steps can be taken to help determine the fault.Note: Some steps are dependent on the customer being on site.Note: Alerts are not available with all subscription. Verify that the subscription supports Geo-Fence alerts.
Determine through the "Equipment Page" in Product Link Web that the equipment is shown outside the Geo-Fence.
If the equipment is shown outside the Geo-Fence, ensure that the Geo-Fence was set up correctly. Refer to https://dealer.cat.com/PL locate Product Link Web for Power Systems and select "Module 4.3: Admin Tab".
If the equipment is shown inside the Geo-Fence on the equipment page, but the cellular radio is physically outside of the Geo-Fence proceed to Step 2.
Do not operate or work on this equipment unless you have read and understand the instructions and warnings in the Operation and Maintenance Manuals. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Contact your Caterpillar dealer for replacement manuals. Proper care is your responsibility.
Request the location of the equipment. With the customer at the location of the equipment, the following questions may or may not be answered. Ask the customer if the equipment is powered ON, and located where the radios have clear line of sight to the sky.
If the equipment was inside of a building, under/next to a large obstacle, or has the battery power OFF, have the customer do the following:
Turn the key power ON if the power was OFF.
Attempt to move the equipment to a more open location with a clear line of sight to the sky.With the equipment in a new location and the correct conditions are met, proceed to Step 3.
If the equipment was ON, and in a good location for data transfer, proceed to Step 3.
On the "Equipment Page" in Product Link Web click on the refresh button.
If new data returns, and shows that the equipment is still inside of the Geo-Fence, refer to Systems Operation Troubleshooting Testing and Adjusting, UENR3697, "Network Manager Does Not Communicate With Product Link Web".
If the equipment shows up inside the Geo-Fence, refer to Systems Operation Troubleshooting Testing and Adjusting, UENR3697, "Product Link Web Does Not Update GPS Location".
If the equipment shows up outside the Geo-Fence, and sends a Geo-Fence message, then return the system to service.
If the equipment shows up outside the Geo-Fence, and does not send a Geo-Fence message, proceed to Step 4.
Refer to https://dealer.cat.com/PL locate Product Link Web for Power Systems and select "Module 4.3: Admin Tab" for training material on setting up a Geo-Fence.
If the Geo-Fence was not set up correctly, then correctly set up the Geo-Fence and return the system to service.
If the Geo-Fence was set up correctly and alerts are enabled, proceed to Step 5.
Submit any necessary information regarding the steps taken in troubleshooting to a DSN ticket.
