Information:
Do not attempt to move the machine without normal brake air pressure.Be sure no one is working on or near the machine to prevent injury. Keep the machine under control at all times to prevent injury.Reduce engine speed when maneuvering in tight quarters or when breaking over a rise.Select the gear range necessary before starting downgrade. Do not change gears while going downhill.A good practice is to use the same gear range going downgrade that would be used to go up the grade.772B
1. Be sure the door cylinder control is in the HOLD position. Push the trailing unit control lever forward.773B
The machine body is lowered and the hoist control is in the FLOAT position. The retarder control lever should be in the UP position. 2. The secondary brake lever should be in the UP position. 3. Move the parking brake switch (1) forward to the OFF position.4. Move the transmission control lever (2) to the desired direction and speed. 5. Release the service brake and depress the accelerator.6. Operate the engine between 1200 and 2200 rpm.
Do not exceed 2400 rpm or engine damage can result.
Secondary Brake System
1. If the low air pressure alarm sounds and the brake air pressure indicator is on, stop the machine before the secondary brake applies. 2. Push the brake pedal down to stop the machine.3. If the service brake pedal does not stop the machine, pull the secondary brake lever. 4. When the machine stops, wait until the air pressure builds up. If the air pressure will not build up, have repairs made.
The secondary brake may be applied and released approximately three times with the engine stopped, after which the secondary brake will remain partially applied. Release the secondary brake by recharging the air system. When parking on a slope, always block the wheels securely before leaving the machine unattended. After an emergency stop, do not operate the machine until a complete check has been made of the entire braking system and any necessary repairs have been made.
In an emergency, the machine can be moved to the side of the road, in 1st speed range, with the secondary brake applied. This may damage the secondary brake. Service the secondary brake before operating the machine.
Direction and Speed Changes
The transmission will automatically shift up or down between 1st and the selected top forward operating range. The downshift inhibitor prevents the overriding of the automatic shifting, if the shift would overspeed the engine. The operator can manually move the shift lever, but the transmission will not downshift until the proper ground speed is attained. When changing direction, stop the machine and reduce the engine rpm to low idle. Move the transmission control lever to the desired direction. Shifts to reverse while moving will damage the reverse clutches.
To avoid striking overpasses, electrical power lines and obstructions, always lower the body before moving the machine.
Automatic Electronic Traction Aid (AETA)
Test-If Equipped
This procedure determines whether the AETA control bar is functioning and that the left and right rear brakes activate when they should. 1.
