start by:a) remove front timing gear coverb) remove valve lifters 1. Remove oil drain line (1) from the left turbocharger and flywheel housing. 2. Remove studs (2) from the flywheel housing with tool (B). 3. Use tool (A) to turn the engine so bolts (3) that hold the rear drive gear to the camshaft can be removed.4. Turn the engine with tool (A) until the "V" marks on the front timing gears are in alignment.5. Install two 3/8"-16 NC bolts (4) four inches long in the flywheel housing. Tighten the bolts evenly until they make enough contact with the rear drive gear to hold it in position when the camshaft is removed. 6. Remove bolts (6) and plate (5). Remove camshaft (7) and gear from the cylinder block. 7. Use a press and tool (C) to remove gear (8) from the camshaft. Remove the key from the camshaft.Install Camshaft
1. Heat gear (2) to a maximum temperature of 600°F (315°C). Install the key on the camshaft. Install gear (2) on camshaft (1) with the notch in the gear in alignment with the key in the camshaft. 2. Put clean SAE 30 oil on the lobes and journals of the camshaft and on the camshaft bearings. Put the camshaft and gear (2) in position in the cylinder block. Make sure the "V" mark on gear (2) is in alignment with the "V" mark on gear (4).3. Install plate (3) and bolts.4. Use tooling (A) to check the camshaft end play. The correct camshaft end play is .0035 to .0105 in. (0.089 to 0.267 mm). 5. Remove the two 3/8"-16 NC bolts four inches long from the flywheel housing. Install bolts (5) that hold the rear drive gear to the camshaft. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 20 3 lb.ft. (25 4 N m). Use tool (B) to turn the engine so bolts (5) can be installed.6. Put 9S3263 Thread Lock on the threads of the studs. Use tool (C) to install studs (6) in the flywheel housing. 7. Install new gaskets on the tube assembly and elbow.
