The high voltage that is produced by an operating generator set can cause severe injury or death. Before performing any maintenance or repairs, ensure that the generator will not start.Place the engine control switch in the "OFF" position. Attach "DO NOT OPERATE" tags to all starting controls. Disconnect the batteries or disable the starting system. Lock out all switchgear and automatic transfer switches that are associated with the generator.

The belt cover must be removed for inspection, adjustment and replacement on open generator sets. (1) Mounting bolts (2) Adjustment boltTo maximize the engine performance, inspect the belt for wear and for cracking. Check the belt tension. Adjust the belt tension in order to minimize belt slippage. Belt slippage will decrease the life of the belt.For the correct tension on the belt, refer to Specifications, "Belt Tension Chart".Adjustment
Remove the belt cover, if equipped.
Loosen mounting bolts (1) and adjusting bolt (2) .
Slide the alternator in the direction that will give the correct tension.
Tighten adjusting bolt (2). Tighten mounting bolts (1) .
Reinstall the belt cover, if equipped.If new belts are installed, check the belt adjustment again after 30 minutes of engine operation at the rated rpm.
