Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Operate the machine in order to warm the oil.
Park the machine on level ground. Lower the blade to the ground and apply slight downward pressure.
Engage the parking brake and stop the engine.

Open the access door on the right side of the cab platform.

Remove the hydraulic tank filler cap slowly in order to relieve any tank pressure.
Remove the filler strainer from the filler tube.
Wash the filler strainer and the filler cap in a clean, nonflammable solvent.

Remove the drain plug from the bottom of the hydraulic tank on the right side of the machine.
Attach a hose to a 1/2-NPT pipe nipple that is 100 mm (4 inch) long.
Install the pipe nipple into the drain plug opening in order to open the internal drain valve. Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.
Remove the pipe nipple in order to close the drain valve.
Clean the drain plug and install the drain plug.
Replace the hydraulic oil filters.Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic System Oil Filter - Replace" and Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic System Oil Filter (Tank Filter) - Replace" for the correct procedures.
Install the filler strainer.
Fill the hydraulic tank with oil. Make sure that the oil level is at the "FULL" mark on the sight gauge. Install the filler cap.Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities and Refill Capacities" for the correct type of oil and for the correct amount of oil.
Start the engine and run the engine for at least ten seconds. Then, stop the engine and add hydraulic oil to the tank until the oil level is at the "FULL" mark on the sight gauge. Install the filler cap.
Start the engine and run the engine at low idle. Cycle the implements so that all hydraulic systems are filled with oil.Note: Never allow the oil level to be below the suction ports in the hydraulic tank while the engine is running.
Stop the engine. Top off the hydraulic tank so that the oil level is at the "FULL" mark on the sight gauge.Note: The oil must be free of air bubbles. If air bubbles are present in the hydraulic oil, air is entering the hydraulic system. Inspect the hydraulic suction line and the hose clamps.
Inspect the filler cap gasket. Replace the gasket if damage or wear is visible. Install the filler cap.
If necessary, tighten any loose clamps or any loose connections. Replace any damaged hoses.
Close the access door.
