Check the Oil Level in the Coupling
Illustration 1 g00499597
The oil level gauge is located on the side of the coupling that is attached to the clutch. The top of the gauge is an M8 bolt.
Rotate the coupling until the oil level gauge is at the 12 o'clock position.
Remove the oil level gauge and clean the gauge. Insert the gauge into the hole.To correctly measure the oil level, simply stick the gauge into the hole. DO NOT screw the gauge into the hole.Observe the oil level on the gauge. The oil should be at the "MAX" mark on the gauge. Add oil, if necessary.
Illustration 2 g00499660
Removing an M10 bolt from the engine side of the coupling provides ventilation for filling the coupling with oil. (1) M10 boltNote: The coupling must be ventilated in order to add oil.
Remove the upper M10 bolt and the washer from the engine side of the coupling.
Pour oil into the opening for the oil level gauge. Add oil until the oil level is at the "MAX" mark on the oil level gauge.
Clean the M10 bolt and the washer. Coat the washer with 154-9731 Thread Lock or 155-0695 Thread Lock . Install the bolt and the washer. See this Maintenance Manual, "Torque Specifications" .
Install the oil level gauge.Ensure that the oil level gauge and the washer are tight. See this Maintenance Manual, "Torque Specifications" .
Inspect the coupling for oil leaks. Look for traces of oil on the coupling.Changing the Oil
The coupling does not consume oil during operation. Normally, the oil in the coupling does not need to be changed.Note: Dispose of fluids according to local regulations.
Prepare a suitable container to catch the oil. Remove the two M10 bolts and the washers from the coupling. Allow the oil to drain from the holes.
Rotate the coupling until no oil flows from the holes.
Rotate the coupling until the oil level gauge is in the 12 o'clock position.
Clean the M10 bolts and washers. Coat one of the washers with 154-9731 Thread Lock or 155-0695 Thread Lock . Install the washer and one of the M10 bolts into the lower vent hole.
Fill the coupling according to the "Check the Oil Level in the Coupling" instructions.
