1. Check for Codes
A. Connect Cat® Electronic Technician (ET) to the service tool connector.
B. Determine if a code is active or logged.
Codes
Result: A 1136-2, 1136-3, or 1136-4 code is active or logged.
Repair: Replace the ECM, refer to Troubleshooting, "ECM - Replace".
Verify that the repair eliminated the problem.
Result: A 1136-15, 1136-16, 1136-17, 1136-18 code is active or logged.
Proceed to Test Step 2.
2. Check Environmental Temperatures
A. Verify that engine compartment temperatures are not excessively high or low. Verify engine compartment ventilation and cooling.
Environmental Temperatures
Result: No problems are found within the engine compartment heating or cooling systems.
Repair: Replace the ECM.
Result: A problem was found with the engine compartment heating or cooling system.
Repair: Repair the contributing factors to excess heating or cooling.
