Snap to Connect (STC) Tool Use for Connection Disassembly
Allowing contaminants to enter the hydraulic system can affect the hydraulic circuit cleanliness and performance. To avoid damage to hydraulic system components, make sure that the hydraulic fitting and surrounding area are clean before disassembly.
Clean the connection to be disassembled and the surrounding area to ensure that the connection is free of all dirt, dust, and grit. Contaminants may affect the hydraulic circuit cleanliness and performance.
Pressure can be trapped in hydraulic circuits after engine has stopped. Personal injury or death can result if all hydraulic pressures are not released. Ensure that the pressure is zero in the line that is being disconnected. Follow instructions in the Service Manual on properly relieving pressure.

Select the designated release tool for the size of the connection. Using the wrong tool may result in damage to the coupling, or cause slippage, resulting in unsafe conditions.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication NENG2500, "Cat Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Insert the release tool behind the dust cover, so that it is perpendicular to the axis of the connection, and the release sleeve for disconnection. Prying on the connection may result in damage to the dust boot, requiring hose replacement.
Pull on the hose in the direction parallel to the axis of connection while keeping the release tool engaged. Pulling the hose in an angle may result in extra force required to disconnect the connection.
