At operating temperature the engine oil is hot. Hot oil can cause severe burns. Do not attempt to perform any maintenance on the vehicle until components are cool enough to touch with the bare hand.
1. Using tooling (A), remove the oil filter assembly (1) from the oil filter base assembly (2).2. Remove two bolts and washers (4).3. Remove six bolts and washers (3).4. Remove four bolts and washers (5), and remove the oil filter base assembly (2). The following steps are for the installation of the oil filter assembly and the oil filter base assembly. Prior to installation, clean and inspect all o-rings for damage or wear. If there is any visible damage to these seals replace them. Lubricate all o-rings with the lubricant being sealed prior to installation.5. Position o-rings and oil filter base assembly (2), and install four bolts and washers (5) finger tight.6. Install six bolts and washers (3) and two bolts and washers (4) only finger tight.7. Tighten all bolts evenly to the standard torque value.8. Install oil filter assembly (1).Disassemble & Assemble Oil Filter Base
Start By:a. remove oil filter and oil filter base 1. Remove the o-rings. Remove bolt (1). 2. Remove relief valve group (2) (two retainers, spring, and spacer). 3. Remove four bolts and the washers, and remove covers (3) and their o-rings. Remove oil cooler by-pass valve (5), spring assembly (4), and spool (6). 4. Remove plug (7) and its o-ring. Remove oil filter by-pass valve (8). The following steps are for the assembly of the oil filter base.5. Install by-pass valve (8) and plug (7) with its o-ring.6. Install oil cooler by-pass valve (5), oil pump by-pass valve (6) and spring (4). Position covers (3) with their o-rings. Install four bolts and washers.7. Position relief valve group (2).
