The new sleeve bearing and thrust washer decrease the contact stress in the final drive planetary shafts. The new sleeve bearings and thrust washers can be used without replacing any other final drive components.Adaptable To: The 239-4258 Sleeve Bearing and 239-4259 Thrust Washer are effective with 988G (S/N: BNH1392-UP) Wheel Loaders, 834G (S/N: BPC196-UP) Wheel Dozers, and 836G (S/N: BRL495-UP) Landfill Compactors. The new sleeve bearings and washers are adaptable to first production of the machines that are listed above. The 239-4258 Sleeve Bearing and 239-4259 Thrust Washer can replace 6Y-9885 Roller Bearing, 8X-4552 Washer, and 8K-0067 Spacer .Clean the bores and inspect the bores of the planetary gears before you install new bearings. Clean the planetary shafts and inspect the planetary shafts before you install new bearings. Replace any planetary gears and planetary shafts if there is pitting, spalling, or deep scratches. Power Train Repair Kits are offered for servicing the above listed machines. 259-1012 Power Train Repair Kit contains the bearings and the seals that are needed in order to overhaul one final drive. The 259-1012 Power Train Repair Kit will also fit 988G (S/N: 2TW1-UP), 834G (S/N: 6GZ1-UP) and 836G (S/N: 7MZ1-UP). Steel roller bearings, spacers, and washers are still available for parts service. The 224-2352 Planetary Shaft replaced the 223-5836 Planetary Shaft for production at the above effectivity. The 223-5836 Planetary Shaft services the 224-2352 Planetary Shaft . The 223-5836 Planetary Shafts can be used for both steel roller bearings and sleeve bearings. The 224-2352 Planetary Shaft can only be used with sleeve bearings.Due to the high loading in some landfill applications, Caterpillar recommends servicing an 836G Landfill Compactor with the new sleeve bearings and thrust washers.Note: Do not mix roller bearings and sleeve bearings in the same final drive. Caterpillar recommends service of all four final drives at the same time in order to keep the bearing usage and the age of parts at the same level.
