Information:
You must read and understand the warnings and instructions contained in the Safety section of this manual before performing any operation or maintenance procedures. Before proceeding with this maintenance, perform all previous maintenance interval requirements.Engine Crankcase Breather
Clean
1. Release hose clips and remove breather valve.2. Remove fasteners.3. Wash breather valve in clean, nonflammable solvent and dry with low pressure air or allow to dry. The breather valve does not normally need to be cleaned, however if necessary, wash valve with nonflammable solvent and dry with low pressure air. DO NOT submerge valve into solvent.4. Inspect upper area of cylinder head for cleanliness. Wash with solvent and dry with low pressure air. Clean mounting flange face on manifold.5. Lightly lubricate nipple and install vent tube. Assemble and install in reverse order of removal. Tighten all hose clamps to 3.0 0.5 N m (27 4.5 lb in). If the crankcase breather system is not maintained on a regular basis, it will become plugged. A plugged crankcase breather would result in excessive crankcase pressure that may cause crankshaft seal leakage.Refer to the Torque Specifications section of this manual or the Service Manual for torque information.Fuel System
Clean/change Filters And Fuel Inlet Screen
The fuel supply line must be disconnected or turn supply valve (if equipped) OFF to perform this maintenance procedure. 1. Remove the cover and seal from top of fuel lift pump and remove gauze strainer. It may be necessary to remove heat shield (if equipped) between pump and turbocharger.2. Clean the screen, seal and cover with a non-flammable solvent. Wipe sediment from lift pump body.3. Install screen after cleaning and assemble cover and seal. Install heat shield (if equipped).4. Connect fuel supply line or turn supply valve (if equipped) ON.Replace Fuel Filters
1. Remove all dirt from the fuel/water separator and fuel filter. Thoroughly clean the outside surface of filter base. Loosen drain on bottom of filter and allow fluid to drain into a suitable container.2. Use a filter wrench to remove fuel filters and discard.3. Clean the gasket sealing surfaces of the filter bases. Make sure all of the old gasket is removed. Ensure adaptor is secure and clean filter mounting surfaces inside the bases.4. Apply clean diesel fuel to the new fuel filter gaskets.
DO NOT fill the fuel filter(s) with fuel before installing. The fuel would not be filtered and could be contaminated. Contaminated fuel will cause accelerated wear to fuel system parts.
5. Install new filter. Spin canister until gasket contacts the filter base. Tighten the filter 3/4 turn more by hand. Do not over tighten.Priming the System
After changing the fuel filters, prime (purge) the fuel system to remove air bubbles from the system. DO NOT REMOVE the plug in the fuel filter base to release air from the fuel system while priming. Periodic removal of the plug will result in increased wear of the threads in the fuel filter base and lead to fuel leakage. If priming pump lever cannot be operated, the drive cam of fuel lift
