Introduction
Reference: For Systems Operation, make reference to Systems Operation, for 572R Pipelayer Power Train, SENR1855. If the Systems Operation in SENR1855 are not the same as in the Testing and Adjusting, look at the printing date on the cover of each book. Use the Systems Operation given in the book with the latest date.Reference: For Specifications with illustrations, make reference to Specifications for 572R Pipelayer Power Train, SENR1854. If the Specifications in SENR1854 are not the same as in the Systems Operation, look at the printing date on the cover of each book. Use the Specifications given in the book with the latest date.Reference: For Testing and Adjusting the Power train Electronic Control System, make reference to SENR8367 Service Manual (also includes transmission and brake calibration procedures).
Personal injury or deat can result from machine movement. When tests and adjustments are made to the transmission or the torque converter, the parking brake must be disengaged. To prevent movement of the machine and personal injury perform the procedure that follows.
1. Move the machine to a smooth horizontal location.2. Retract the counterweight and lower the boom to the ground.3. Put blocks in front of the tracks and behind the tracks.4. Allow only approved personnel on the machine. Keep all other personnel off the machine and in clear view of the operator.5. When testing must be done in a closed area, activate the service brakes when the parking brake cannot be used. When possible, activate the service brakes while performing tests. All tests and adjustments must be made with the power train system oil at normal operating temperature. This test should be performed if the machine functions normally when in gear but stops suddenly when shifted to neutral in conditions where the machine would normally coast to a stop. Step 1. Check for symptom.a. Determine that the symptom is active.b. Complete this procedure only if the symptom is active. Results:* ACTIVE - Proceed to Step 2.* NOT ACTIVE - STOP. Step 2. Check brake pedals.a. Inspect the brake pedals to see if they are returning fully.b. Repair as required.c. Check the operation of the machine for the original complaint.Reference: Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, SENR7160, "Brake Pedal Postion" for additional information. Expected Result: The original complaint is resolved. Results:* OK - STOP.* NOT OK - Proceed to Step 3. Step 3. Check pressure.a. Start and run the engine at low idle.b. With the transmission in neutral and the parking brake disengaged, check the left hand and right hand brake pressures at steering and brake control valve (11). Use pressure tap (G) for the left hand brake and pressure tap (H) for the right hand brake.
