WHEEL LOADER,
Compatible equipment models: 3488585:
Information:
1. Loosen the high pressure fitting carefully (one turn maximum) until grease is allowed to emerge from the cylinder through the fitting.2. Retighten the high pressure fitting to 35 N m (23 lb ft) when the desired track tension is reached.Air Conditioner (If Equipped)
Checking the Amount of Refrigerant
1. Start the engine and move the governor control lever backward to the half way position. 2. Look at the sight glass on the receiver dryer and note the amount of refrigerant in accordance with the following. 3. In figure A, almost transparent with few bubbles which disappear as the engine rpm varies: this indicates a satisfactory amount of refrigerant.4. In figure B, a lot of bubbles are present: this indicates lack of refrigerant.5. In figure C, small amounts of vapor are present: this indicates almost no refrigerant.6. If figure B or C is noticed, consult your authorized Caterpillar dealer for recharging.7. Operation of the air conditioner without correct amounts of refrigerant could cause failure of the compressor.Inspect and/or Adjust the Belt
An incorrectly tensioned V-belt could cause not only a decrease of the compressor performance but damage to the belt and compressor.
1. Measure the deflection of the belt.2. Apply approximately 98 N (22 lb) force midway between the pulleys. The belt should deflect 7 to 10 mm (0.3 to 0.4 inch).3. If the deflection is out of specification, adjust the belt with the adjusting bolt (1) of idler pulley assembly until the deflection is correct.Cleaning the Condenser
If excessively dirty, clean condenser with a brush. To prevent damage or bending of the fins, do not use a stiff brush.Repair the fins if found defective.
1. Remove the radiator cover. 2. Wash off all dirt and dust from the condenser with clean water.Cleaning Filters
Pressure air can cause personal injury. When using pressure air for cleaning, wear a protective face shield, protective clothing and protective shoes. The maximum air pressure must be below 205 kPa (30 psi) for cleaning purposes.
When combining front filter covers and front filters, and side covers and side filters, mate the attachment faces of the filter packings with the mating faces of the cover cleaning unit.
1. Pull the cover knob out and take the front filter cover (1) and front filter (2) out.2. Pull the cover knob out and remove side filter cover (3) and side filter (4). 3. Clean filters and covers using preassure water 280 kPa (40 psi) or less, or compressed air. 4. Assemble front filter (2) into front cover (1), and assemble front filter cover (1) into the unit.5. Push in the cover knob. 6. Install side cover (3) and side filters (4).Fuel Filter Screen
Clean the Screen
Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire.Turn the disconnect switch OFF, (if equipped) or disconnect the battery when changing fuel filters.
No attempt should be made to start the engine until the fuel injection pump has been filled with fuel and air removed from the system, or serious damage can be caused to the fuel injection pump.
