A     2P-8312     External Retaining Ring Pliers     1    Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.Note: Put clean oil on all parts before assembly.

Install seals (10) and (11) on the piston, as shown.

Install piston (4) in housing (9), as shown.
Install O-ring seal (4) on the housing.

Install springs (7) in the housing, as shown. Put the inside diameter of the springs together. Put the outside diameter of the springs opposite each other.
Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily injury.To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure and wear protective equipment.

Install pressure plate (6) with the counterbore for the ring upward.
Put two bars (1) across pressure plate (6), as shown. Bars (1) are flat pieces of steel approximately 16.5 cm × 31.8 mm × 6.4 mm (6 1/2 inch × 1 1/4 inch × 1/4 inch). Put ring (2) over the bars, as shown. Install two bolts (3) through ring (2) and the housing. Install the washers and the nuts on the bolts. Bolts (3) are 3/8" - 16 NC x 4 inch. Tighten bolts (3) evenly in order to put the disc springs in the track brake in compression. Use a soft hammer in order to push the piston through the pressure plate so lockring (5) can be installed. Use Tool (A) in order to install lockring (5) in the groove in piston (4) .
Loosen bolts (3) evenly and allow the disc springs in the housing to push pressure plate (6) over lockring (5) .
Remove bolts (3), ring (2) and bars (1) from the housing.End By: Install the track brakes. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Track Brakes - Install" for the machine that is being serviced.
