Travel Lock Magnet Coil connectionsThis diagnostic code is associated with the travel lock magnet coil. The FMI 06 means that the Machine Control ECM has determined that the circuit current for the magnet coil is above normal.Conditions that can cause this diagnostic code are listed:
The energize circuit of the magnet coil is shorted to a ground source.
The magnet coil has failed.
The ECM has failed. This is unlikely. Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Verify that the CID 1622 FMI 06 diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure.Note: Disregard the references to the Implement ECM 2 if one is not installed on the machine.Note: The resistance of a good magnet coil is 66 4 ohms at 25 °C (77.0 °F) ambient temperature. Test Step 1. CHECK THE MAGNET
Turn the disconnect switch and the key switch to the ON position. Do not start the engine.
Observe the status of the diagnostic code.
Disconnect the magnet from the machine harness. Expected Result:The active FMI 06 diagnostic code changes to a FMI 05 diagnostic code when the magnet is disconnected. Results:
YES - The active FMI 06 diagnostic code changes to a FMI 05 diagnostic code when the magnet is disconnected. The circuit is correct.Repair: The magnet coil has failed. Repeat this test "CHECK THE MAGNET" in order to verify the magnet coil failure. Replace the magnet.STOP
NO - FMI 06 diagnostic code remains active. Disconnecting the magnet did not affect the status of the diagnostic code. Proceed to Test Step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE ENERGIZE CIRCUIT OF THE MAGNET FOR A SHORT TO GROUNDThe magnet remains disconnected from the machine harness.
Turn the key switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connectors J1 and J2 from the Machine Control ECM and the Implement ECM 2.
At the Machine Control ECM machine harness connector J2, measure the resistance from the supply contact J2-3 (wire R988-PK) to frame ground. Measure the resistance from the supply contact J2-3 (wire R988-PK) to all of the other contacts that are used in the Machine Control ECM connectors and the Implement ECM 2 connectors.Expected Result:Each resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms. Results:
OK - Each resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms. The magnet coil circuit is not shorted in the machine harness. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - One or more of the resistance measurements is less than 5000 ohms. There is a short in the machine harness. The short is between wire R988-PK and the circuit with the low resistance measurement. Repair: Refer to the complete machine Electrical System Schematic. Examine all of the connectors in circuits for points in the machine harness where the circuits could be shorted. For information on testing for short circuits and finding short circuits, refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Wiring Harness (Short Circuit) - Test". Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.STOPTest Step
