Relay connector
Ensure that all connectors are connected to the wiring harness.
Start the engine.
Use a multimeter to measure the voltage between terminal 86 (Control Valve Warm Up) of the relay and terminal 85 (Solenoid Return) of the relay.
Turn the keyswitch to the OFF/RESET position.Expected Result:The voltage is 24.0 8.0 VDC.Results:
OK - The relay is faulty.Repair: Replace the relay.Verify that the repair eliminates the problem.STOP
Not OK - Proceed to Test Step 9.Test Step 9. Check for Shorts in the Harness between the Relay and the ECM

OK - Proceed to Test Step 11.
Not OK - There is an open circuit in the wiring harness between the relay and the ECM.Repair: Repair the circuit.Verify that the repair eliminates the problem.STOPTest Step 11. Verify That the ECM is Producing a Valid Signal to the Relay
Connect Cat ET to the service tool connector.
Start the engine.
Proceed to the "Status" screen in Cat ET.
Check the status of the warm-up.
Operate the control levers for the boom of the machine.
Check the status of the warm-up.
Turn the keyswitch to the OFF/RESET position.Expected Result:Cat ET shows that the warm-up is active before the control levers are moved. Cat ET shows that the warm-up is not active when the control levers are moved. Results:
