Information:

Regeneration Triggers
A regeneration may be required for the following reasons:Soot: The DPF will collect soot produced by the engine. The percentage of soot in the DPF can be viewed on a performance screen under “DPF Level” on the display panel. An automatic regeneration to reduce soot could become active between 80% and 116% soot level.Start: A start regeneration could be initiated by the ECM at the start of a cold engine. This is to reach a desired SCR catalyst temperature to allow DEF dosing to start.SCR Maintenance: The ECM uses multiple inputs and determines when urea deposits may be present in the exhaust system. The CRS will heat the exhaust to remove the deposits anywhere in the exhaust system.ARD Maintenance: Some applications may have a significant time between when a regeneration has occurred. A regeneration will occur if this time is greater than 25 hours to flush fuel through the CRS system.Regeneration System Warning Indicators
Illustration 1 g02117258Indicator will illuminate when a regeneration is required. Soot level is greater than 90%Regeneration should be performed as soon as possible. A manual regeneration should be performed as soon as possible.Indicator will turn off once DPF regeneration has started.Note: In some situations, the DPF indicator may stay illuminated when the soot load is below 90%. The illuminated DPF indicator indicates that a complete regeneration has not been performed. A complete regeneration is when the soot level is reduced to 0%. If the DPF indicator stays illuminated, perform a regeneration without interruption until the soot level is reduced to 0%. A complete regeneration will reset the DPF indicator.
Illustration 2 g02117259If the soot level has reached 100% or the “Time to Regen” is 0 hours, then a regeneration is required, the DPF indicator and an action indicator will be illuminated. Stop the machine and apply the parking brake. With the engine at low idle, initiate a manual regeneration. Engine power will be slightly derated if the machine continues to operate. The engine will also be derated to 50% power. Engine power will gradually be lost until 100% soot or 25 hours without a regeneration.
Illustration 3 g02117261Once the soot level has reached 116% soot, the DPF indicator and an action indicator will be illuminated and an audible alarm will sound.10 minutes after the soot level has reached 116%, the engine will shut down. Cycle the engine start switch key to return the engine to the previous derate before engine shutdown. If the soot level reaches 120% or 5 hours of run time since the action indictor was illuminated without a successful regeneration, the engine will have a 100% derate.Once the engine has reached 140% soot, the regeneration will be locked out. At this time, a regeneration can only be done through Cat Electronic Technician (ET), by an authorized Cat dealer. The engine may be restarted but will only run for 30 seconds before shutting down again.Delayed Engine Shutdown
The Delayed Engine Shutdown allows the engine to run for a time after the engine start switch is turned to the OFF
