6. Check the Continuity of the Air Shutoff Switches
A. Ensure that the air shutoff mechanism is in the open position.
B. Disconnect the connector for the suspect air shutoff switch.
C. At the connector for the switch, check for continuity through the switch at the following connector terminals:
a. With the air shutoff mechanism in the OPEN position, a switch in good repair will have continuity between terminals 1 and 2.
A switch in good repair will not have continuity between terminals 2 and 3.
A switch in good repair will not have continuity between terminals 1 and 3.
b. With the air shutoff mechanism in the CLOSED position, a switch in good repair will have continuity between terminals 1 and 3.
A switch in good repair will not have continuity between terminals 1 and 2.
A switch in good repair will not have continuity between terminals 2 and 3.
Place the emergency stop switch in the RUN position.
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Restore the wiring to the original configuration.
Closed and open circuit
Results: The continuity checks agree with the results that are given. The switches are in good repair. There is a problem in the harness between the ECM and the connectors for the air shutoff switches. There may be a problem with the ECM.
Proceed to Test Step 7
Results: The continuity checks did not agree with the results that are given.
Repair: There is a problem with one of the switches. Replace the suspect switch. Verify that the repair eliminates the original problem.

7. Check for Proper Operation of the ECM
A. Disconnect the J1/P1 ECM connectors and the J2/P2 ECM connectors.
B. Fabricate two jumper wires that are long enough to create a test circuit at the ECM connector. Crimp connector sockets to one end of each of the jumper wires.
C. At the J1/P1 ECM connector, use a wire removal tool to remove the wire from terminal location P1-41 (air shutoff switch). Install a jumper wire into this location.
D. At the J2/P2 ECM connector, use a wire removal tool to remove the wire from terminal location P1-14 (digital return). Install a jumper wire into this location.
E. Connect the ECM connectors. Connect the loose ends of the jumper wires in order to create a short circuit between the jumper wires.
F. Turn the battery disconnect switch to the ON position.
G. Use Cat ET to monitor the "Air Intake Shutoff Position"
H. Create an open circuit between the jumper wires.
I. Use Cat ET to monitor the "Air Intake Shutoff Position"
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Restore the wiring to the original configuration.
ECM
Results: While the jumper wires are shorted, the status parameter reports "Closed". With the open circuit between the jumper wires, the status parameter reports "Open"
Repair: The ECM is reporting the correct switch position. There is a problem in the harness between the ECM and the connectors for the switches. Identify the problem in the harness. Refer to Illustration 2 for a detailed description of the circuit. Perform the
