Slave piston lash is measured between the slave piston and the actuating pin in the bridge adjusting screw. Adjust Jacobs Brake slave lash at the same time the valve lash is adjusted. Make the slave piston adjustments with the engine stopped. The exhaust valves must be closed on the cylinder to be adjusted.1. The No. 1 piston must be at top center (TC) on the compression stroke. Follow the first three steps of the Engine Valve Lash to find top center position for piston No. 1.

Adjusting Screw/Locknut (1), Slave Piston (2) Actuating Pin (3) (within the bridge adjusting screw assembly).2. Insert a .050 in. (1.27 mm) feeler gauge between slave piston (2) and actuating pin (3) in the bridge adjusting assembly.3. Turn the slave piston adjusting screw (1) clockwise until the .050 in. (1.25 mm) is set.4. Hold the adjusting screw in this position and tighten the locknut to a torque of 26 lb ft (35 N m).5. Make correct adjustments for cylinders 1, 3 and 5.6. Remove the timing bolt and turn the flywheel counterclockwise 360°. This will put No. 1 piston at top center (TC) position on the exhaust stroke. Install the timing bolt in the flywheel.7. Make correct adjustments to the slave piston for cylinders 2, 4 and 6.8. Remove the timing bolt from the flywheel when all adjustments have been made and reinstall the timing cover.
