Location of the Brake Accumulators (1) Brake accumulator (rear service brakes). (2) Brake accumulator (front service brakes).The accumulators for both the front and the rear service brakes are located on the right side of the hydraulic oil tank in the engine compartment.

Components of Brake Accumulator (3) Nitrogen charging valve. (4) Nitrogen chamber. (5) Piston. (6) Pressure oil chamber. (7) Accumulator. (8) Port to service brake control valve.Each accumulator has a sealed piston (5). The piston moves back and forth inside the bore of each accumulator. The chamber for nitrogen gas (4) contains a charge of approximately 5520 kPa (800 psi) of dry nitrogen gas. Accumulator (7) is charged with dry nitrogen through nitrogen charging valve (3) .Oil from the accumulator charging valve flows through port (8). The oil then enters pressure oil chamber (6). The oil pushes piston (5) which causes the dry nitrogen gas to compress. When pressure in accumulator (7) reaches 14485 345 kPa (2100 50 psi) the accumulator charging valve stops the flow of the oil.When the service brake pedal is pushed, oil from chamber (6) flows out of port (8) and into the brake control valve. The pressure of the oil applies the service brakes that are located at each of the four wheels.
