Machine Preparation
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Illustration 4 g02280104
Position the machine on level ground in the service position. Refer to Illustration 4.
Stop the engine.
Release the pressure in the hydraulic system. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "System Pressure - Release".
Attach 311-1362 Vacuum Cap onto the hydraulic tank. Attach an air supply hose onto the assembly. Apply 276 to 414 kPa (40 to 60 psi). This procedure will pull a vacuum on the hydraulic system.

Pump compartment (1) Pressure tap (delivery pressure for front pump 1) (2) Pressure tap (delivery pressure for rear pump 2)
Connect 41,368 kPa (6,000 psi) pressure sensors to pressure tap (1) and pressure tap (2) for delivery pressure from both pumps.

Flow Meter Tool LayoutTooling (D) (3) Boom cylinder (4) Tube for boom cylinder rod end (5) Tube for boom cylinder head end
Install tooling (D) in accordance with the flow meter tool layout. Refer to Illustration 6.

(6) Hose (boom cylinder head end) (7) Hose (boom cylinder rod end) (8) Hose (boom cylinder rod end) (9) Hose (boom cylinder head end)
Disconnect and remove hose (6) and hose (7) at the boom foot. Install plugs (D6) and seals (D10) to boom foot and boom cylinder tubes using existing hardware.
Disconnect and remove hose (8) and hose (9) at the boom foot. Install plugs (D6) and seals (D10) at boom cylinder tubes using existing hardware.
Install flow meter (D1) , load valve (D2) , and test hoses at boom foot. Refer to Illustration 6 for tool setup.Note: In order to avoid damage to the flow meter, make sure that the direction of oil flow is correct. The proper direction of flow is from tube (5) for the boom cylinder head end, through flow meter and load valve, and return through tube (4) for the boom cylinder rod end.
Remove 311-1362 Vacuum Cap and install the filler plug for the hydraulic tank.
Install tooling (C) on the engine to monitor engine speed.Test Procedure
To prevent personal injury or equipment damage from failure of the hydraulic test equipment or associated circuit components because of blocked pump flow, make sure that the test equipment valves are fully open before starting the engine.
To prevent personal injury and/or equipment damage from failed lines or components while the hydraulic test equipment is returned to the open flow position, slowly open the hydraulic test equipment valve while monitoring the pump flow.If pump flow does not increase as the valve is opened, shut the engine off and determine what is preventing the pump from upstroking.
Start the engine.
Place the hydraulic activation control lever in the UNLOCKED position.
Place the machine controls at the following settings: engine speed dial "1"
