Parking Brake Components (1) Parking brake actuator. (2) Parking brake.Parking brake (2) is located in the drive line on the rear end of the machine just behind the articulated hitch. When the oil pressure in the brake system drops below a given pressure, parking brake actuator (1) engages the parking brake.

(3) Parking brake control knobThe parking brake can be engaged by pulling out on the parking brake control knob (3). The parking brake control knob is located on the dashboard to the left of the steering column.

(4) Parking brake indicatorA normally closed pressure switch is located on the parking brake control valve. When the parking brake engages, the pressure switch sends a signal to both the transmission electronic control module (ECM) and the Caterpillar Monitoring System. When the parking brake engages, the pressure switch activates the parking brake indicator (4) . When the parking brake engages, the transmission will shift into neutral. This shift only occurs if the transmission is in either first speed forward or first speed reverse.
