Figure 2-When this condition is present, possibly the cam is not turning or is turning too slow.
Figure 3-When this condition is present, cam can be turning too fast.1. Move the machine to the slope to be cut if possible (or any known slope), and move the blade into position.2. Turn the selector switch to either the left or right slope position as desired, adjust the slope control dial to the known slope angle, turn the slope switch "on" and the grade switch "off".3. Manually lower the grade end of the blade to the ground and check to see if the slope angle of the blade is in alignment with the known slope.4. If blade adjustment is not correct, adjust the trim potentiometer-clockwise rotation will lower the slope end of the blade. Each trim potentiometer adjusts the position of the cylinder that controls the slope. If the slope is controlled by the right cylinder, adjust the trim potentiometer nearest the operator. If the slope is controlled by the left cylinder, adjust the other trim potentiometer. The above procedure will make compensation for a worn cutting edge, a loose circle, or an error in adjustment of the ball resolver, but the accuracy will be good only for the specific slope on which the adjustment is made. When the blade position is changed to cut a different slope, it will be necessary to make a new adjustment for alignment with the new slope. Also, the larger the amount of trim potentiometer adjustment for one slope, the larger will be the error when the blade position is changed for a different slope. For this reason, it is best to make an analysis to find the cause of the difference between the slope control dial setting and the blade alignment (worn cutting edge, loose circle, or wrong adjustment of the ball resolver), and correct the problem.
Removal or installation of attachments on either the front or rear of the machine after adjustment at the factory will have an effect on the ball resolver, pendulum, etc. For example, if a ripper is added to a motor grader equipped with ABC, it will be necessary to make a completely new adjustment of the frame level on the bolster, the pendulum, and possibly the ball resolver. To do this, the machine must be on a level surface, and the weight of the machine must be on the tires during adjustment.
Large windrows (heavy blade loads) or hard materials can lift the blade by force and have an effect on the accuracy of the ABC, especially when the motor grader is equipped with an extra length blade. The shortest blades permit the best accuracy of ABC.
The ABC system has the capacity for a slope accuracy of .125" (3.18 mm) in ten feet (3.05 m) during operation in good conditions of base preparation (soil cement, B.A.M., lime treated base, etc.). During operation in heavier load conditions, an accuracy of .50" (12.7 mm) in ten feet (3.05 m) can be
