Secondary Steering Pressure Switch SchematicCID 0794 FMI 03 service code can only be recorded if the optional secondary steering system is installed. The secondary steering system must be energized in the power train electronic control module (ECM) software via the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) configuration screen. The power train ECM performs this function with pressure sensor switch inputs, a test switch, and a relay driver. CID 0794 FMI 03 is detected if both inputs have an open circuit or are shorted to the +battery. Before performing this procedure refer to table 1 in order to determine the connector and contact that corresponds to the faulty circuit.

Pressure High     Closed     Open    Note: Ensure that the desired fault CID 0794 FMI 03 is active. Note: Step 1 can create other faults that the power train ECM will detect. Ignore these created faults and clear the created faults when CID 0794 FMI 03 is corrected.
Check the electrical connectors and the wiring.
Turn the key start switch to the OFF position. Turn the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Thoroughly inspect the power train ECM machine harness connector, the power train ECM connectors, and the secondary steering pressure switch terminals in the connectors.
Check the power train ECM connector (Allen head screw) for correct connection.
Check the harness and wiring for abrasion and pinch points from the secondary steering pressure switch connector back to the power train ECM.Expected Result: The wiring and the connectors are correct.Results:
OK - The wiring and the connectors are good. Proceed to Step 2.
NOT OK - Repair the wiring and/or connectors. If necessary, replace the wiring and/or connectors. Ensure all seals are correctly in place and the connectors are completely mated. Verify that the repair eliminates the problem. Clear all diagnostic codes. If conditions are not resolved, proceed to Step 2.
Create a short at the harness side of the switch connector at pin C.
Turn the disconnect switch to the ON position. Turn the key start switch to the ON position.
With the secondary steering pressure switch disconnected at the switch connector, use a jumper wire to connect pin A to pin C at the harness connector.
Check if CID 0794 FMI 03 fault is still active.Expected Result: The CID 0794 FMI 03 fault is not active.Results:
OK - CID 0794 FMI 03 fault is not active. Proceed to Step 3.
NOT OK - CID 0794 FMI 03 fault is active. Most likely there is an open circuit in the harness. Proceed to Step 4.
Create a short at the harness side of the switch connector at pin B.
With the secondary steering pressure switch disconnected at the switch connector, use a jumper wire to connect pin A to pin B at the harness connector.
Check if CID 0794 FMI 03 fault is still active.Expected Result: The CID 0794 FMI 03 fault is not active.Results:
OK - CID 0794 FMI 03 fault is not active.
