Fuel System Primary Filter - Replace
Personal injury or death may result from failure to adhere to the following procedures.Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire.Clean up all leaked or spilled fuel. Do not smoke while working on the fuel system.Turn the disconnect switch OFF or disconnect the battery when changing fuel filters.
Do not fill fuel filter with fuel before installing the fuel filter. Contaminated fuel causes accelerated wear to fuel system parts.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

The fuel shutoff valve is at the rear of the machine under the fuel tank. Turn the red handle of the fuel shutoff valve to shut off the fuel supply.
Open the left engine access door.

To drain primary filter (1), open drain valve (3) on water separator bowl (2). The water separator bowl is under primary filter (1). Catch the fuel in a suitable container.Note: Discard any drained fluids according to local regulations.
Remove primary filter (1) and water separator bowl (2).
Remove water separator bowl (2) from the primary filter element (1).
Wash water separator bowl (2) in a clean nonflammable solvent. Use pressure air to dry water separator bowl (2).
Install the clean water separator bowl onto a new primary filter element.
Wash the filter mounting base in clean, nonflammable solvent. Make sure that all the old seal is removed.
Coat the seal of the new filter element with clean
