This Special Instruction is intended to give information on installing the groove-less retainer for certain well stimulation pumps.Do not perform any procedure in this Special Instruction until you have read the information and you understand the information.Also ensure that you are following all safety precautions while you are performing the procedures outlined in this document.Safety Section
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Note: Start with the fluid end broken down and stripped of all components.
Clean the suction sealing bore with a clean rag.

(1) O-ring groove
(2) Valve
(3) Valve seatNote: Valve and valve seat outside of the taper bore. The legs of the valve go into the valve seat.

(2) Valve
Ensure that valve seat (3) has one O-ring installed in O-ring groove (1).
Place valve seat (3) into the clean taper bore, press the valve down by hand.Note: This will help align the valve seat with the taper bore.
Install valve (2) into valve seat (3).

(4) Aluminum round bar
Ensure that the valve is seated properly in the seat.
Tap the suction valve assembly from the top using a solid aluminum round bar (4).

(5) Valve spring
Position valve spring (5) with the large side down towards the valve around the spring groove.

(6) Valve spring retainer
Place valve spring retainer (6) with the nose towards the rear of the fluid end.

(6) Valve spring retainer
Place valve spring retainer tool (A) on top of valve spring retainer (6). The handle of the valve spring retainer tool should be parallel with the block.
