The high voltage that is produced by an operating generator set can cause severe injury or death. Before performing any maintenance or repairs, ensure that the generator will not start.Place the engine control switch in the "OFF" position. Attach "DO NOT OPERATE" tags to all starting controls. Disconnect the batteries or disable the starting system. Lock out all switchgear and automatic transfer switches that are associated with the generator.
Impellers and seals require periodic inspection. Impellers have a service life that is limited. The service life depends on the engine operating conditions.Inspect the components more frequently when the pump is exposed to debris, sand, or other abrasive materials.Use the following procedure in order to disassemble the auxiliary water pump.

Remove screws (1) and plate (2) .
Remove O-ring (3) and rubber cap (4) .
Remove impeller (5) .
Check the following components for wear or damage: the impeller, the O-ring seal and the end plate. Replace any worn components.Use the following procedure in order to assemble the auxiliary water pump.
Clean the contact surfaces of the pump body and the end plate.

Apply liquid soap to the blades of impeller (5) upon installation. The blades of the impeller should be bent in a counterclockwise position. Refer to Illustration 2. Install the impeller.

Install the rubber end cap (4) .
Install O-ring seal (3) and plate (2). Fasten the plate with bolts (1) . Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly for more information on servicing the auxiliary water pump.
