Machine ECM 10 VDC Power Supply connections
This diagnostic code is associated with the Machine ECM 10V sensor power supply. The 10V sensor power supply provides power for the refrigerant circuit switch. The CID 1482 FMI 03 diagnostic code is activated when the ECM detects voltage of the 10V power supply circuit is above normal.The following conditions could cause this diagnostic code:
The power supply circuit is shorted to a higher voltage source.
The ECM has failed. This condition is unlikely.Note: Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean, secure and in good condition. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure. Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear the diagnostic codes when the problem has been corrected.Test Step 1. CHECK THE VOLTAGE AT THE COMPONENT
Turn the disconnect switch and the keyswitch to the ON position.
At the connector for the HVAC pull up resistor, insert a 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe along the supply wire N951-GN(Green) at contact 1. Insert a 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe along the return wire 513-OR(Orange) at contact 2.
Measure the voltage between the supply contact 1 and the return contact 2. Expected Result:The voltage measurement is 10.0 1.0 VDC.Results:
OK - The voltage measurement is 10.0 1.0 VDC. The voltage is correct. Proceed to Test Step 4.
NOT OK - The voltage measurement is greater than 10.0 1.0 VDC. The voltage measurement is not correct. Proceed to Test Step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE POWER SUPPLY AT THE ECM
Turn the disconnect switch and the key switch to the OFF position.
At the Machine ECM connector J1, use a 151-6320 Removal Tool or a similar tool to remove the power supply wire and socket at contact J1-69 (wire N951-GN(Green)) from the connector.
At the Relay Driver Module connector, insert a 7X-1710 Multimeter Probe along the wire 513-OR(Orange) and socket at contact J1-48.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key switch to the ON position.
Use a multimeter probe in order to make contact on the ECM connector pin at contact J1-69. Measure the voltage at the ECM between the power supply contact J1-69 and the return contact J1-48. Expected Result:The voltage measurement is 10.0 1.0 VDC.Results:
OK - The voltage measurement is 10.0 1.0 VDC. The voltage is correct. The ECM power supply is correct. Install the wire and socket that were removed from the J1 connector back into the proper locations. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The voltage measurement is greater than 10.0 1.0 VDC. The ECM power supply is not correct.Repair: Prior to replacing an ECM, always contact the Technical Communicator at your dealership for possible consultation with Caterpillar. This consultation may effect repair time. If the ECM requires
