Information:

New bucket hinge pin bosses with machined bores can be installed as service replacements on the lift arms of the above wheel loaders when the bores of the original bosses are badly worn.
Use only low hydrogen AWS E7016 or E7018 electrodes to make welds. All electrodes must be completely dry. Do not weld in areas where there is a strong movement of air, or in temperatures of less than 60°F (16°C).
910, 931, 931B, 920, 930, 950, 966C
(1) Put blocks under the lift arms and bucket so neither the arms or bucket will move when the bucket hinge pins are removed. The bucket should be level and to a height easy to work on the arms. (2) Use a cutting torch to cut off the end of the lift arms to the dimensions shown. See page 4 for the 950 and 966C machines. (3) Remove the hinge pins and the old bosses. Install new bearings in the new tip assemblies; install the tip assemblies and the hinge pins. Use the old grease fittings in the new bosses. (4) Fasten small tabs (1) of metal with tack welds to the edges of the weld joint. Start and stop all welds in these tabs to keep slag out of the critical areas of the weld. Put the tip assemblies in alignment with the lift arms so no gap (A) between the lift arms and the tip assembly is over .25" (6.4). Make all weld passes first on one side, then the other, to prevent distortion. Be sure to get good penetration with all weld passes. Clean the welds after each pass. Completely fill the space between the arm and tip with weld material, to just above the surface of the arm. Remove tabs (1) and grind the welds smooth.
Use the grinder only in a direction parallel with the length of the lift arm.
(5) Remove the hinge pins. If the pins cannot be removed easily, there is probably distortion in the arms from the welding heat. Use the following procedure to make the arm straight.Heat to a dull red side (A) of the arm (toward which the arm needs to be bent), while the side opposite (A) is kept cool. The arm will bend in the correct direction when it becomes cool. The amount of correction with this procedure will be small. If more of a bend is needed, first heat side (A) as given above; then, also heat evenly the top and bottom surfaces (B) of the arm to a dull red, and let the arm become cool.If still more bend is needed, again follow the same procedure until all the distortion is removed.(6) When the hinge pins can be easily removed and installed, the bores are in correct alignment. Install the seals and lubricate the bearings. Put paint on the arms.980B, 988
(1) Remove the bucket from the lift arms; see the Service Manual. Clean the ends of lift arms (1). (2) Use chalk or paint to mark outline (A)
