Machine Shipping
Check the route for vertical and horizontal clearances with the machine loaded on the transport vehicle. Ensure that the combination of machine and transport vehicle complies with local laws and regulations along the entire route.General dimensions are given in the topic "Specifications and Model Views" in the "General Section" of this manual.Remove ice, snow or other slippery materials from the transport vehicle, rail car or loading dock before loading the machine. Always block the transport vehicle or rail car wheels before loading the machine.Ensure the dump body is fully lowered. Engage the parking brake and leave the gearshift lever in NEUTRAL.Stop the engine and remove the start switch key. Turn off the disconnect switch and remove the key.Lower the front suspension. See the topic "Suspension Lowering" in the "Maintenance Section" of this manual. Block the wheels and install suitable tie-downs at the four locations provided. The height of the dump body can be reduced by folding down the spillguard.1. Support the spillguard with suitable lifting equipment.2. Remove five bolts (1), nuts (2) and washers (3).3. Loosen two nuts (4) and lower the spillguard into the dump body. Retighten two nuts (4).4. Stow bolts (1) nuts (2) and washers (3) in holes in the spillguard. When shipping a machine without a dump body, install suitable retainers on the hoist cylinders. Consult your Caterpillar dealer for more information.Machine Lifting
Before lifting the machine, install the steering frame lock links on the steering cylinders.
Do not use the forward pair of lifting holes in the body (1). These holes are provided to enable the body to be lifted off the machine.
Use a lifting beam and sling from the lifting points provided.Use proper rated cables and slings for lifting. Position the crane to ensure a level machine lift.The approximate unladen weights of the machines are:D20D ... 15000 kg (33100 lbs)D250D ... 17000 kg (37500 lbs)Machine Roading
Before roading the machine, check with the proper officials and obtain the necessary permits etc. The machine is designed for off highway use and is not road legal in most countries.Perform a thorough "Walk-Around Inspection". See the topic "Every 10 Service Hours or Daily" in the "Maintenance Section" of this manual.Check the fluid levels in the windshield washer reservoir, cooling system, engine crankcase, transmission, hydraulic tank and fuel tank. See the topics "When Required", "Every 10 Service Hours or Daily" and "Every 50 Service Hours or Weekly" in the "Maintenance Section" of this manual.Consult your tire dealer for recommended tire pressures and speed limitations. "TON kph" (TON mph) limitations must be observed. See the topic "Tire Inflation Information" in the "Maintenance Section" of this manual for correct tire inflation procedures.When travelling long distances, stop every hour for thirty minutes to allow tires and other components to cool. Travel at moderate speed and observe all speed limitations when roading the machine.If in doubt, consult your Caterpillar dealer for more information.Jacking Points
