Procedure for Checking and Adjusting End Play of Transmission Output Bearing1. Assemble gear (1), bearings (3) and bearing cage (5) on end plate (2). Tighten all bearing cage bolts.2. Position end plate so that bearing axis is in a vertical position.3. Rotate gear back and forth several times to seat rollers.4. Measure the gap between the bearing cage and end plate.5. Add shims (4) as required to obtain 0.05 to 0.15 mm (.002 to .006 in.) end play)6. Repeat Steps 1, 2 and 3 with shims.7. Measure end play of gear with a dial indicator.8. If end play is less than 0.05 mm (.002 in.), add shims. If end play is greater than 0.15 mm (.006 in.), remove shims.
