30. Remove bearing cone (36) from case (25) with tooling (E).31. Remove the four dowels from the inside of case (25) if necessary.Assemble Differential And Carrier Assembly
1. Make sure the flange of case (3) and the surface of gear (4) are clean and free of burrs.2. Heat gear (4) in oil to a maximum temperature of 250°F (120°C). Install the gear on case (3) with the mark on the gear in alignment with the mark on the case.3. Put oil on the threads of bolts (1) and the face of washers (2) that hold gear (4) to case (3). Install the bolts, washers and locks. Tighten all bolts the same amount until they have a torque of 98 9 lb.ft. (134 12 N m). Bend the tabs of the locks on the bolts. 4. If a new bevel gear and/or cases are to be installed, install the dowels with the following procedure: a) Make the original dowel holes (5) larger by the use of a .844 in. (21.4 mm) drill or a .875 in. (22.2 mm) core drill.b) Again, make the dowel holes larger with a reamer to a diameter of .9055 to .9065 (22.9997 to 23.0251 mm). Use a standard .906 in. (23.1 mm) reamer to do this. c) Install the three dowels (6) even with face of the differential case. 5. Make sure the four dowels inside of case (3) are installed so they extend .110 .005 in. (2.794 0.127 mm).6. Put oil on the parts of the differential group. Install thrust washer (8) and side gear (7) in case (3) with the oil groove in thrust washer (8) next to side gear (7).
Make a replacement of the thrust washers for the side gears and the thrust washers for the pinions as a set.
7. Install pinions (10) and thrust washers (11) on spider (9). 8. Install spider (9) in case (3). Make sure the grooves in the thrust washers are engaged with the dowels in case (3). 9. Install side gear (13) and thrust washer (12) with the groove in the washer next to the gear. 10. Put differential case (14) into position on case (3) with the marks on each case in alignment with each other. 11. Install the washers and bolts (16). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 100 15 lb.ft. (135 20 N m).12. Heat bearing cones (15) in oil to a maximum temperature of 275°F (135°C). Install bearing cones (15) on the differential cases. 13. Lower the temperature of the large bearing cup and small bearing cup (17). Install the bearing cups in housing (18). 14. Heat larger bearing cone (20) in oil to a maximum temperature of 275°F (135°C). Install bearing cone (20) on pinion shaft (19) as shown. 15. Put pinion shaft in housing (18). Heat small bearing cone (21) in oil to a maximum temperature of 275°F (135°C). Install bearing cone (21) on pinion shaft (19). 16. Install nut (23), the lock
