This view of the control is from the front of the machine toward the rear of the machine.
Do not move the control lever to the FREE SPOOL position with a load on the line.The load will be released uncontrolled and can result in injury or death.
Free Spool (1) - Position (1) is toward the rear of the machine. Move the control lever to position (1) in order to free the drum. While the control is in this position, cable can be pulled from the drum by hand.
Brake Off (2) - Move the control lever to position (2) in order to release the winch brake. Use this position when you move the machine away from a load. Also use this position to allow the weight of the load to lower the load. In most applications, sufficient tension will be maintained on the cable while the control lever is in the fully engaged position. You may need some braking action in order to hold a load on a slope while the machine is moving. Brake enough to maintain the minimum cable tension that is necessary. When you release the lever the lever returns to the BRAKE ON position (3).
Brake On (3) - Move the control lever to position (3) for towing loads or for holding loads. Also, use the position when you are not using the winch.
Reel In (4) - Position (4) is toward the front of the machine. At a low engine RPM, push the control lever slowly into the REEL IN position until the load starts to move. The speed of the cable should be controlled by varying the speed of the engine.
