Coolant level sight gauge
The sight gauge is located behind the cab and protrudes through the front cover of the engine compartment.
Maintain the coolant level within the sight gauge.

Topping off or mixing Cat ELC with other products that do not meet Caterpillar EC-1 specifications reduces the effectiveness of the coolant, shortens coolant service life, and may cause premature wear to components.Use only Caterpillar products or commercial products that have passed the Caterpillar EC-1 specification for pre-mixed or concentrate coolants. Use only Extender with Cat ELC.Failure to follow these recommendations can result in shortened cooling system component life.
The cooling system pressure cap (2) is at the front of the engine enclosure forward of the engine air precleaner. If the coolant level is low, open cooling system pressure cap access cover (1) to access cooling system pressure cap (2).
Slowly loosen the cooling system pressure cap (2) to relieve system pressure. Remove the cooling system pressure cap (2). Add the required amount of coolant to maintain the coolant level within the sight gauge.Note: If coolant must be added daily, check for leaks in the cooling system.
Inspect the cooling system pressure cap (2) and the cap seal. Clean the cap and install the cap. If the cap is damaged, install a new cooling system pressure cap (2).
Close the cooling system pressure cap access cover (1).
Inspect the radiator core for debris. Clean the radiator core, if necessary.Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Radiator Core - Clean" for more information.
