Personal injury or death can result from not engaging the parking brake.Transmission engagement alone will not prevent machine from rolling when the engine is stopped.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

During normal operation, a small amount of oil leaks into the cases of the steering pump and the steering motor. Check the case pressure in order to ensure that the leaking oil is draining properly out of the case. High case pressure could indicate a clogged drain line.Required Tools

Move the machine to a smooth, horizontal location that is away from operating machines and away from personnel.
Permit only one operator on the machine. Keep all other personnel away from the machine or in the sight of the operator.
Place the steering control lever in the NEUTRAL position.
Engage the parking brake.
Lower the attachments to the ground.
Stop the engine.
Turn the key to the ON position, but do not start the engine.
Verify that the implement shutoff control is in the UNLOCKED position.
Move the implement control levers and the transmission control lever through the full range of travel several times. This will relieve any pressure that may be present in the implement hydraulic system and the power train system.
Loosen the filler cap on the hydraulic tank so that the pressure in the tank is released. The machine may be equipped with a breaker valve. The breaker valve will be located on top of the tank. To release the pressure in the tank, press the button on top of the breaker valve.
Tighten the filler cap on the hydraulic tank.
