PUMP GP-FUEL INJECTION 1316589 - Caterpillar

Sudden movement of the machine or release of oil under pressure can cause serious injury to persons on or near the machine.To prevent possible injury, perform the procedure that follows before testing and adjusting the hydraulic system.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

(1) This pressure sensor is an optional item. This sensor is not included in the 198-4240 Digital Pressure Indicator. The sensor must be ordered separately.Note: Perform the following steps before conducting this procedure:
Park the machine on a flat, level surface.
Place the propel control lever in NEUTRAL.
Engage the parking brake.
Stop the engine.
Open the cover plates on the operator's platform.

Disconnect supply hose (1) to the pump. Install Tool B and Tool C. Connect the supply hose from the pump to Tool C.
Connect Tool A to the tap.
Start the engine. Operate the engine at 2250 rpm (high idle). Monitor the hydraulic oil temperature with Tool D. Operate the machine until the oil temperature reaches 43° 5.6°C (110° 10°F).
Move the propel lever to NEUTRAL. Engage the parking brake.

Move switch (3) for the air compressor to ON.
When pressure gauge (2) registers at least 482 kPa (70 psi), move switch (3) for the air compressor to OFF.
Move switch (3) for the air compressor to ON. Then, read the pressure on Tool A. The pressure should be 15860 345 kPa (2300 50 psi).

If the pressure is outside the specified range, loosen the locknut on relief valve (4). In order to increase pressure, rotate the adjustment screw clockwise. In order to decrease pressure, rotate the adjustment screw counterclockwise. Hold the adjustment screw in place, and tighten the locknut.
If the pressure is inside the specified range, stop the engine. Then, remove the tooling. Replace the compressor cover.
