Ball And Socket Adjustment Procedure
1 Shims must be used at all ball and socket joints (except the trunnions on the track roller frames) on 6A Bulldozers. Use the procedure below to find the correct shim thickness at these locations. 2 Remove the paint from the contact surfaces of the ball and both halves of the socket. Put half of the socket in position on ball (1). Install cap (2) without shims, and tighten bolts (3) until both halves of the socket are against the ball. Use the shims to measure the clearance between the two halves of the socket. Remove cap (2), and install shims (4) equal in thickness to the measured clearance plus on shim.Installation Of Bulldozer Without Tilt Cylinders
1 Remove the exhaust pipe, muffler, precleaner and hood. On all tractors except those equipped with a factory installed hydraulic control, use bolts and nuts to put brackets (1) in position on the radiator guard as shown. Install tube (2) on brackets (1). Tack weld plates (3) in position. Make sure dimension (X) is a minimum of 1.38" (35.1). Use a .53" (13.5) convex bevel groove weld with .06" (1.5) penetration at location (A) between bracket (1) and plates (3). Remove the nuts and bolts from brackets (1).2 Weld all around the remainder of brackets (1) and plates (3) with a .10" (2.5) square groove weld followed by a .19" (4.8) fillet weld. Use a .12" (3.0) bevel groove weld followed by a .19" (4.8) fillet weld all around to install links (4). Remove tube (2). Use .10" (2.5) square groove welds followed by .19" (4.8) fillet welds at locations (B), and .10" (2.5) square groove welds followed by .25" (6.4) convex J-groove welds at locations (C). 3 Install tube (2). Install fittings (5) in tube (2) with the fittings toward the engine. Fill the ends of tube (2) with grease. Put a seal on each yoke (6) and install the yokes in tube (2). Install pins (7) and the plates. Install the bearing halves in each yoke and cap. 4 Put the cylinders in position and install the caps. Install the lubrication fittings in the caps. Remove the covers from the front and rear openings of the cylinders. Install tubes (8) and (9), plates (10) and hoses (11). Fasten tubes (9) to the cylinders with bosses (12) and clips (13). Fasten the hoses together with clamps (14) as shown. 5 Remove the paint from all locations where the trunnions and track roller frames will be in contact. Install the trunnions. Tighten bolts (15) to a torque of 420 60 lb. ft. (570 80 N m). Put the C-frame in position on the trunnions and install caps (16). 6 Put the lift cylinders in position on the C-frame. Install caps (17) and shims as necessary. Move the tractor into position with the blade and install pin (18), the lock pin and cotter pin. 7 Install screw (19) in arms (20) until dimension (Y) is
